I'm not making the case - Saint David Attenborough himself makes the case in a round about way.
Check out this video where he's playing 'Night in the Museum' at the Natural History Museum in London. They bring to life all sorts of mega fauna. At the 25 minute mark, he introduces an 'animal' that if they had skinned and animated it differently would basically be a 3 m tall human.
