Are you able to conjure images directly out of your head onto the pad or do you need something to look at first,then draw?

I can look at an image and draw it or just doodle something out of my own head (like the post) . That's more fun for me, just scribbling around . I'm versatile that way I guess. I've yet to do any they live artwork yet because I'm intimidated by all the GREAT artists who have , but speaking of they live, have you listened to or read the short story 8 o'clock in the morning that inspired that movie? It's great!!!! I'll post it !!
